Professor David Julian McClements Became an Adjunct Professor at ZJSU

On the morning of November 11, the signing ceremony for Professor David Julian McClements’ employment as an Adjunct Professor was held in ZJSU. Professor McClements is an internationally well-known food scientist and a distinguished professor at the University of Massachusetts, the US. President Chen Shoucan attended and hosted the ceremony, with the attendance of directors from Postgraduate Affairs Office, Scientific and Research Office, Personnel Office, International Office and representatives from School of Food Science and Biotechnology.

On behalf of the university, President Chen sent his support and appreciation to Professor McClements. He gave a simple introduction about the development and characteristics of food specialty in ZJSU. He said that a good research foundation about food specialty had been built and human-food combined research characteristic had been formed on the track to international elite research institutions. Professor McClements’ participation as a part of ZJSU will help lead and push the food science to a both home and global elite specialty research.

Professor McClements said that food science research had globally become a hot topic to discuss. ZJSU’s invitation is an honor for him, and he had witnessed the vitality of the research team of School of Food Science and Biotechnology in these days. He would like to commit himself to talents cultivation, scientific research and international influence enhancement.

Later, Director of Personnel Office Liu Renping, on behalf of the university, signed the employment contract with Professor McClements and President Chen conferred the appointment letter to Professor McClements.


Professor D. Julian McClements specializes in the areas of food biopolymers and colloids, and in particular on the development of food-based structured delivery systems for bioactive components. He is one of the most internationally prestigious and influenced professors in ZJSU’s internationalization process. He has published over 1000 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals (with an H-index of 126, 12 patents, as well as numerous book chapters and conference proceedings). He has been one of the most highly cited researchers in food science area since 2005, and he ranked the first in agricultural field on the ESI global highly cited researchers 2017 list.
