Recently, Dean of the School of Engineering and Informatics at Sussex, Ian Wakeman paid a visit to Sussex Artificial Intelligence Institute of ZJSU. GU Qing, Vice President of ZJSU met the guest and Tao Ying, Director of International Office, Li Chuanhuang , Director of Science and Technology Office, and Wei Guiyi, Dean of Sussex Artificial Intelligence Institute also attended the meeting. The two sides reviewed the history of collaboration and reached a consensus on ways to promote sustainable growth of Joint Institute, such as joint programs of graduate students, research cooperation, integration of teaching resources and mutual visits of faculty.
The main purpose of Prof. Wakeman's visit lies in the cooperation of joint Ph.D program. The two sides have reached an initial intention for cooperation on major selections, admission scale, faculty designation, scholarship and preparations for application for Ph.D program. Both sides agreed to further promote the application of Ph.D program and strive to build up the Joint Institute as a highland for training artificial intelligence talents covering Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programs.
Professor Wakeman interacted quite a lot with the administration team, representatives of teachers, and some postgraduate students from Sussex Artificial Intelligence Institute. He had a close talk with teachers about the curriculum content, teaching efficiency, and mentoring system for postgraduates. The students present also shared their learning experience and proposed some recommendations. The visit of Prof. Wakeman plays a crucial role in ensuring the educational quality, promoting bilateral exchange, and enabling the further development of the teaching quality and research capacity of the Joint Institute.
Professor Wakeman gave a lecture for undergraduate students of the Joint Institute about the Master's programs in the School of Engineering and Information at the University of Sussex. He introduced the background of the University of Sussex and the outstanding achievements made in the field of information and engineering. Meanwhile he shared detailed information about the curriculum, research direction and employment prospects of master's programs. This lecture was warmly received by the students .
Professor Wakeman's first visit to ZJSU after the pandemic is of great significance, which not only enhanced the cooperation of the two sides but also drives forward our joint endeavors in academic exchange, talent training, internationalized cooperation, and continuous improvement of the Joint Institute. It is expected that cooperation opportunities and academic resources should then come through to further collaboration of the two sides in education, research, and talent training.
