In the afternoon of November 13th, Japanese Culture Center was officially established and Japanese Culture Week began. Katayama Kazuyuki, Consul General of Consulate General of Japan in Shanghai, Chen Shoucan, President of Zhejiang Gongshang University(ZJSU), Du Jian, together inaugurated the ceremony.
President Chen Shoucan made the opening speech and introduced the development of Japanese Major and the achievement made inJapanese studies in the School of Oriental Language and Culture. He said that China and Japan are neighbors and had a long history of exchange, during which the two countries delivered mutual learning and common development. At the same time, it enriches the civilization of East Asian and the whole world. This year marks the fortieth anniversary of the "Sino-Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship". Cultural exchanges in various fields are extensively carried out, which would deepen the connections between the two peoples and enhance the expectation and confidence of the two peoples and the international community on Sino-Japanese relations. He hopes that the "2018 Japanese Culture Week" would be held as an opportunity to further deepen Sino-Japanese cultural exchange, promote mutual understanding between the two peoples and make a bigger contribution to China-Japan peace and friendship.
On behalf of the Consulate General of Japan in Shanghai, Mr. Katayama delivered a congratulatory speech. He mentioned that the foundation of China-Japan relations mainly relied on people-to-people communication and the future would be created by the young generation. He hopes students can learn Japanese culture through this center with a view to deepening understanding about Japan. In addition, he expressed appreciation for the efforts ZJSU had made and made a commitment that the Consulate would offer supports and help to diversify the Japanese Culture Week.
Du Jian and Wang Min also expressed congratulations to the establishment of Japanese Culture Center. They set forth the fruits and deep meaning about China-Japan friendship and sent a message to faculty and students of ZJSU who are expected to use these resources to strengthen interactions, mutual understanding and friendship between two countries.
Afterwards, a tea ceremony was given by a performer from Omotesenke, the famous tea house in Japan, to fully demonstrate the Japanese tea culture and convey its essence of “calmness and tranquility, brightness and solitude”. Besides, there will be more colorful activities during the "2018 Japanese Culture Week", including performances and experience activities such as Ikenobo Ikebana Floral Art (a kind of flower arrangement art in Japan), and academic activities such as the seminars of Studying in Japanese Universities and lectures about Japanese cultural studies . Extraordinary Japanese cultural experience would be brought to teachers and students of ZJSU.
