Vice President of School of Professional Studies, Columbia University Visited ZJSU

On April 7th, Mr. Karl Rutter, Vice President of School of Professional Studies, Columbia University visited ZJSU. Tao Ying and Zhang Junying, Director and Vice Director of International Office, met the guests. Other staff from International Office also attended the meeting.

Staff from International Office extended their warmest welcome to Mr. Karl Rutter. In the talk, they reviewed the history of the cooperation between these two universities and hoped that more students be exchanged from both sides in the future. Mr. Karl Rutter extended his appreciati onto ZJSU for the great contributions made on cooperation between the two universities. Also, Mr. Karl Rutter made an introduction of potential cooperative majors and the features of Columbia University and he hoped that more students could go to Columbia University via interschool exchange programs.

After the meeting, Mr. Karl Rutter gave a lecture named “Cross-cultural Communication in International Marketing” in the School of Business Administration. In the lecture, he compared and analyzed different culture of various countries in International Marketing, and emphasized the importance of cross-cultural communication. The students were quite active to ask questions and Mr. Karl Rutter answered thoroughly.

Columbia University is one of the five oldest universities in the United States, which is a leading power to establish the famous “Ivy League”, the world top institutions of higher education, together with Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Cornell and others. Located in Manhattan, New York, Columbia University offered education to Obama, Hu Shi, Xu Zhimo, Li Zhengdao, Mondale, Morgan, and other celebrities. Among the alumni and professors, 83 has won Nobel Prizes, 3 has succeeded as Presidents of the United States including Obama. Columbia University ranked the 5th among more than 4000 colleges and universities in U.S. in accordance with US News & World Report in 2016, the 8th on the list of “global top colleges and universities in academic achievements” issued by Shanghai Jiaotong University, and the 16th among world-top universities according to Times in 2017.

ZJSU initiated cooperation with Columbia University in 2012, and more than one hundred students have been sent to Columbia University for exchange through the program.
